The couple Smallholding who has volunteering in his blood is ready to tackle a new football season behind the refreshment bar Sillé-le-Guillaume (Sarthe).
If you stop by the Martin-Parayre municipal stadium in Sillé-le-Guillaume, it is very likely that you will come across Nicole and Raymond Smallholding. Indeed, it has been several years since the octogenarian couple has very regularly held the Sillé restaurant on Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday. It must be said that volunteering has hardly any secrets for them: it has been just half a century that they have given of their time for the good functioning in general of the football club. All with a communicative enthusiasm and pleasure that is appreciated by all. And it is not President Gilles Jarry who will say the opposite:
“Nicole and Raymond perform a very valuable role every week. We can only say thank you. A football club is not just players in shorts and crampons when it comes time to kick off a match. There are also all the extras and it’s important to know how to delegate that to people. On this, I have total confidence in Nicole and Raymond, whose dedication is remarkable for the reception of our licensees and our spectators. “
They are 80 years old
The Métairie couple is far from unknown in our region: Nicole, originally from Fresnay-sur-Sarthe, ran the drugstore in Sillé place Saint-Étienne from 1971 to 2001 while Raymond, a native of Saint-Ouen-de-Mimbré , was a freelance painter in Sillé. He also had in his ranks among his apprentices Philippe Tellier who subsequently set up on his own in Rouessé-Vassé.
“With our professional career as traders, we are known here. We take pleasure in coming to the stadium regularly to lend a hand. We appreciate the atmosphere that reigns there, the young people tease us from time to time, but it’s still very respectful. Of course, one day, we will have to think about replacing us because we will not be eternal. But for the moment, health follows (note: they are both 80 years old), ”explains Nicole.
Pascal Rousseau and Raymond Métairie are responsible for picking up the goods for the refreshment bar and the post-match snack (bread, rillettes, pâté, cheese, drinks, etc.). “And we call on local commerce, which is obvious because they are our sponsors all year round”, emphasizes Raymond, who has a daughter and two granddaughters.
Quality infrastructures
With the birth of health complications almost a year and a half ago on French soil, the couple have been less asked to hold the refreshment bar in recent months, but a return to normal is expected for the start of September.
In any case, Nicole and Raymond, holders of the sanitary pass and will therefore have the right to enter the sports grounds. The resumption of competition is also imminent and Raymond, former player of US Fresnoise football, is crossing his fingers that the FCPS pennant team has a good start to the sports season:
“The recruitment made this summer was interesting under the guidance of a new coach, it should bring people to the stadium. We are fortunate in Sillé-le-Guillaume to have a beautiful complex with changing rooms, the refreshment bar built under the mandate of Mayor Michel Bottier, a covered stand and a lawn in very good condition. What we lack, however, I find, is the lighting of the main pitch and a small reception hall. “
You will understand: these two volunteers who live not far from the rue de Bretagne in Sillé have something to take care of during their retirement. And you can check it for yourself by going to the stadium, they have a sense of welcome.
