On the night of Friday, July 23rd, 2021, the Mülheim fire brigade was alerted to a reported room fire in the Broich district at around 3:30 a.m. The residents of the house had been woken up by the warning tone of the installed home smoke detector and had left the building immediately. When the first emergency services arrived, smoke could already be seen from a window on the second floor. The cause of the smoke development was a fire in the children’s room of the house. The fire was quickly localized and extinguished by a team from the fire brigade. The affected family remained uninjured and was cared for by the emergency services for the duration of the operations.

After the extinguishing measures were completed, the building was ventilated. The fire brigade’s mission ended after about an hour. The police have opened an investigation into the cause of fire.

Due to the early fire detection by the home smoke detector, worse was prevented during this operation. The family was able to leave the building early before the toxic smoke from the fire could spread further in the building. The fire brigade points out once again in this context: “Smoke detectors save lives”. (MBö)
