Lithuanian border guards have forced almost 50 migrants to return to Belarus

Lithuanian border guards also observe several small groups of migrants deeper in the territory of Belarus from time to time, who do not approach the border between the two countries and do not try to cross it. Audio recordings in Arabic, Kurdish, English, French and Russian are used to warn such persons.

The statement of the SBGS indicates that patrols in the territory of Lithuania are still carried out under intensified regime and Latvian and German helicopters are also involved in the surveillance of border areas.

The flow of illegal migrants across the Lithuanian-Belarusian border has reportedly increased sharply this summer. Since the beginning of the year, the total number of illegal immigrants apprehended in Lithuania has exceeded 4,000. Most illegal migrants want to enter Western European countries through Lithuania.

From August 3, following the order of the Minister of the Interior Agne Bilotaite, Lithuanian border guards force migrants arriving in Lithuania illegally from Belarus to return.

Lithuanian officials point out that the Belarussian regime is deliberately facilitating the flow of migrants across the border, as Lithuania supports the democratic opposition in Belarus and has given asylum to its leader Svyatlan Cihanouska.
