Scientist NASA Johs Willis, who studies ice sheets and oceans, said that at first he just wanted to observe the melting of the Greenland mainland as usual. He then flew using the DC-3 aircraft.

Willis said that the melting of ice in Greenland is thought to be due to climate change, where the temperature on Earth is hotter than usual, thus melting the frozen ones.
“It’s important to know that all the major searches have occurred in the last two decades or so. That’s because the ice melt in Greenland is getting more and more extreme every decade due to human intervention with the climate,” he said.
According to the National Snow and Ice Data Center, an institute that researches the polar regions and ice on Earth, in one summer, the ice can melt in an extreme way. In late July and mid-August, the melting of the ice in Greenland the area can reach more than 800 thousand square km.
On earth there are two regions filled with ‘eternal’ ice sheets, Greenland and Antarctica. However, both of the Earth’s poles are melting which of course will have an impact on sea level.
In the last 30 years, ice loss in Greenland and Antarctica has increased sixfold. Researchers say the melting of the ice is expected to increase sea levels by 1.5-2.5 feet.
