Riga Stradiņš University (RSU) and “VEF Rīga” have signed a cooperation agreement, which envisages that the RSU basketball team will become a “Vefieu” farm club in the coming month, the university informs. In the next month, the RSU basketball team will become the Latvian champion farm club. RSU has made support for basketball one of the university’s sports priorities.
The cooperation agreement concluded between GEF Jahovič, President of VEF Rīga, and Aigars Pētersons, Rector of RSU, stipulates that next season both parties will work together to raise the RSU basketball team to a new level, using the knowledge and experience of eight-time Latvian champions.
It will also be a great opportunity for young university specialists to practice the knowledge acquired at the university, for example, in physiotherapy or sports medicine, gaining experience and learning from leading specialists in Latvia. The opportunity to train at the highest level will be another advantage that the university will provide to its students.
“It will be an opportunity for new players to get higher education in addition to training. The importance of education cannot be overestimated, I know many professionals who continue or start their studies after the end of their careers. This will be an opportunity to combine high-level play with a training schedule tailored to your training. We are glad that our new players will also be able to get practice practice when it is necessary, ”the president of VEF Rīga Jahovičs is convinced of the new project.
“Riga Stradins University is an internationally recognized university of science, which ensures the study and research process in the highest quality. RSU has always supported both the academic growth of students and their extracurricular activities, especially sports, ”emphasizes RSU Rector Petersons. We are pleased with the cooperation with the titled basketball club “VEF Rīga”, which will allow our university basketball team to achieve even higher results on an international scale. It will also be a great opportunity for our healthcare students to do an internship in sports medicine. ”
The RSU basketball team will play in the Ramirent National Basketball League or LBL2 next year. In 2019, the RSU basketball team LBL2 fought for a bronze medal against Jelgava and suffered a loss. In the previous three seasons, RSU has won two silver and one bronze medals.
