The ship of Octopoda was sailing between Lelystad and Urk when the emergency message went out. Teun Molenaar of the KNRM Urk: ,,In such a case, we take the fire brigade on board when we sail there. We have fire extinguishers on board, but not the expertise that the fire service has. Then we sail at 30 knots, which is about 60 kilometers per hour. Within fifteen minutes we were at the ship.”
