Mama June spent her fortune on drugs and alcohol, after which she lost custody of her daughter. Today, Lauryn, June’s other daughter, is Honey Boo Boo’s guardian. “People have no idea what the impact is of other people’s drug and alcohol use,” Honey Boo Boo told Teen Vogue. “It’s very difficult. I wouldn’t wish this on anyone. (…) When my mother was really bad, I didn’t know where I would end up.” But the reality star is ‘proud’ of how far she has made it, she says in the interview.

Honey Boo Boo does everything she can to get well with her mother, but also wants to focus on her own future. “I want to be the best version of myself and earn my own money. But also get good grades in school. I do my best,” she says in the magazine. Her goal is to have her own house and car by her 18th birthday. “I do everything I can to keep my own life in order.”

That’s not all the reality star is concerned with. “My mom didn’t call me Honey Boo Boo. My name is Alana,” she explains. With this she wants to distance herself from her TV personality. “They’re two completely different people. (…) I think people expect me to always be the little Honey Boo Boo, but I’m not anymore.” She also has a message for body shamers: “I know I’m beautiful and I have a good body. So those haters can do something for me.”
