The draw for the 2021-2022 season group stage in the UEFA Europa League and UEFA European Conference League will be held in Istanbul tomorrow.
The UEFA Europa League, the second most important club-level organization of European football, and the UEFA European Conference League, organized for the first time this season, will determine the groups by a draw at the Haliç Congress Center. The Europa League draw will begin at 13:00 and the European Conference League draw will begin at 14:30.
Fenerbahce, who beat Finland’s Helsinki 1-0 in the first match of the play-off tour, and Galatasaray, who drew 1-1 with Danish team Randers, will fight in the Europa League groups if they eliminate their opponents. Fenerbahce and Galatasaray will join the European Conference League groups if they are eliminated.
In the European Conference League, Demir Grup Sivasspor, who lost 2-1 to Denmark’s Copenhagen team in the play-offs, and Trabzonspor, who lost to Italy’s Roma with the same score, will stay in the groups in case of skipping.
Tournament formats
The number of teams in the Europa League this season has been reduced from 48 to 32.
The teams will be divided into 8 groups of four in the league. In the draw, where the bags will be determined according to the ranking of the clubs in UEFA, teams from the same country cannot be in the same group. The group winners will advance directly to the round of 16. The Europa League group runners-up and the UEFA Champions League groups finishing in third place will face each other in the play-off round to qualify for the last 16 rounds.
In the European Conference League, the teams will be in 8 groups of four. Teams from the same country cannot be in the same group. The group winners will have their names written directly into the round of 16. Teams that finished their groups in second place will compete with the third place in the Europa League in the play-offs of the European Conference League, and will struggle to stay in the last 16 rounds.
Group matches in both tournaments will start on 16 September and end on 9 December. Finally, the final of the UEFA Europa League, which was brought to the museum by the Spanish team Villarreal, will be played on May 18, 2022 at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium in Seville, Spain. The European Conference League final match will be held on May 25, 2022 at the National Arena in Tirana, the capital of Albania.
