Guy Frère was going to celebrate sixty years of volunteering. He was buried a few days ago at the Basilica of Notre-Dame-de-Bonsecours, near Rouen (Seine-Maritime). The municipality has just suffered a heavy loss. The Notre-Dame Basilica was not able to welcome, as there were so many, all the people who came to give a last tribute to Guy Frère whom many nicknamed ” Mr. Volunteer “.
Suddenly missing, Guy Frère was born in Paris in the XXe arrondissement, of sailors’ parents. He arrived very young in Rouen. He began his professional career for 12 years at the HLM (Moderate rent housing) before leaving for the city of Canteleu as a storekeeper. He will then move on to the courier service and finish his professional career, after 23 years in the civil status service.
Passion for football
In 1962, it was his passion for football that led him to the field as an educator. He will bring a few hours of glory for 14 years at Rouen Les Sapins and seven years at USQ (Petit-Quevilly). In 1984, Guy Frère moved to Bonsecours.
Serving young people
For 29 years, Guy Frère will follow the chick, minimal and junior teams of the Bonauxilien club. He even worked for ten years (1998-2008) with the then president who is now the mayor. “A man of character, but who was always present and of great kindness”, testifies with emotion Laurent Grelaud, the mayor of Bonsecours.
An often rewarded volunteer
In 2010, coming of age, Guy Frère bowed out from the pitches, but remained in the logistics as responsible for equipment and shirts at the FCBSL (Football Club de Bonsecours / Saint-Léger). Every evening, we could meet him at the Club house. In his career as a volunteer, it wasn’t just football. For years, he was an active member of the pétanque section and even president from 2006 to 2009 of the club.
Awarded several times by the ASCB (Sporting and Cultural Association of Bonsecours), graduated by the General Council of Volunteer 76 and recipient of the Association of Youth and Sports Medalists of Rouen and its region whose Gold level him was awarded on February 21, 2018, the man has always been at the service of others with dedication, without compensation. Buried on Friday August 21, 2021, he will be remembered by his family, friends and the community. Goodbye Mr. Volunteer.
