A family field for basketball players Dāvis and Daira Bertāni was opened on Tuesday in Valmiera near Jānis Daliņš Stadium.
Bertāns’ first outdoor court is dedicated to basketball player Kobe Brianent and his daughter Gianna, who tragically died last year. In the middle of the square there is a place for number 24, with which Brian ended his career.
The Bertāni family wanted to open the square last Tuesday, but due to bad weather the event was postponed to this week. Inadvertently, the opening date fell on August 24, or 24/8 – the numbers Brian played in his NBA basketball career.
A game with the participation of Dāvis Bertāns took place at the opening event. For each point gained in the game, the Bertāni family will donate 100 euros to the village of Valmiera “Children’s SOS”, thus the total donation of the charity game reached 10,500 euros.
Latvian basketball personalities such as Kaspars Vecvagars, Edmunds Valeiko, Dainis Bertāns, Roberts Zeile and Oskars Virsis took part in the match. Dairis Bertāns is currently in Spain and is preparing for the upcoming season with the club.
Kristaps Porziņģis has already installed several outdoor areas in his native Liepāja. He also has squares in Tukums and Riga, but this year it was planned to create one in Rēzekne.
