Registration begins for free testing for the prevention, detection, diagnosis and early treatment of cervical cancer. The ONCOPREV national program is carried out by the Regional Institute of Oncology from Iași together with the Enable Foundation with the support of the local authorities Bacău City Hall, the Prefect’s Institution and the Bacău Social Assistance Directorate.
What is HPV?
HPV is a sexually transmitted virus that infects the cervix, and can cause cervical cancer over time. Most sexually active people can become infected at some point in their lives.
What is screening and why is it useful?
Screening for cervical cancer is a periodic test every 5 years of all women aged 25-64. Recommended tests for the prevention or early detection of cervical cancer are the Babes-Pap test and the HPV test (the HPV test is performed only on women over the age of 30).
