Riga Circus will open the season with the story of Latin American streets “Somos” / Article

The new season of the Riga Circus will be opened with the performance “Somos” of the association “Cie Bêstîa” (France). The performance will be shown on September 9 and 10 at 19.00 in VEF Culture Palace, the representatives of the Riga Circus informed.

The members of the circus association “Cie Bêstîa” grew up in the same neighborhood in the Colombian capital Bogota during their teenage years and together they experienced the harsh street life, which taught them to hold together and support each other. That is what this production is about – “about belonging to and belonging to one or another social, ethnic or religious group”. Acrobats in the universal circus language ask questions about relationships: trust, friendship and interaction.

“Somos” translated from Spanish means “we are”. “It simply came to our notice then. There are many of us and we are different, but we are together, ”the performance application states. According to the authors, “Somos” is a show glorifying humanity, located on the border between circus and dance – choreographic gestures are understandable in every corner of the world and at any age.

The founder of Cie Bêstîa is Wilmer Marquez. He previously worked for the world-renowned circus association El Nucleo, where for more than 20 years Markess has been a harmonious duo of acrobats with his childhood friend Edward Aleman. Both friends are the first Colombians to graduate from a professional circus school in FranceChâlons en Champagne National Center for Circus Arts.

Riga Circus Director Liene Pērkone is happy about the new season: “Finally the time has come when we can organize a show and after a long time give the audience the opportunity to enjoy the circus in person – a truly heartfelt show that speaks of all understandable values!

During the reconstruction of the circus building, it is important for us to maintain contact with Rigans and guests of the city, offering opportunities to see, understand and learn about the circus.

Therefore, we cooperate with various cultural spaces of the city and plan to show performances outside the circus building. The activities of the Riga Circus continue actively – we develop and expand the Circus School, organize circus master classes for various audiences and, of course, organize performances. ”

The show “Somos” is intended from school age and will be interesting for both families and adult audiences. Two streams of spectators will be organized at the venue – to the “green” zone (with Covid-19 vaccination or disease certificates) on the ground floor and to the “yellow” zone (with the same green zone certificates as well as testing certificates; for children under 12 years (excluding) – without certificates)) on the balcony.

Currently, the historical building of the Riga Circus is being reconstructed, therefore, until 2023, the performances and guest performances organized by the Riga Circus will take place in various other cultural spaces of Riga. Also, together with the Riga Circus, the theater troupe “Kvadrifrons” has moved to temporary premises on Zeļļu Street. The lessons of the Riga Circus School take place in Āgenskalns, Zeļļu Street 25 (former Faculty of Physics and Mathematics, University of Latvia). It is currently open login Circus schools for the new season.
