One in six packages is delivered on the wrong day

One in six packages is not delivered on the agreed day and more than a quarter of the orders do not arrive at the correct time. Market researcher Multiscope reports this on the basis of research among more than 3,100 Dutch people.

Foreign delivery services most often did not deliver packages on the agreed day: at Bpost, DPD, GLS and UPS this applied to 22 percent of the packages. PostNL (15 percent) and DHL (13 percent) did slightly better. Own delivery services from stores such as Albert Heijn and Coolblue delivered 95 percent of orders on the agreed day.

In addition, more than a quarter of the packages were not delivered on time. In fact, small delivery drivers did not deliver more than half of the orders (58 percent) at the right time. This is followed by parcels delivered by Bpost, DPD, GLS and UPS (19 percent), DHL (15 percent) and PostNL (14 percent). Own delivery services again performed best here: in 6 percent of cases, orders were not delivered on time.

Earlier this month, PostNL announced the further expand delivery capacity to meet the growing demand for online shopping. For example, the company wants to deploy more parcel lockers where customers can pick up their parcels themselves. In 2024 there should be about 1500 of them.
