In a gripping crime thriller, our boys suffered a defeat at the beginning.
The match remained open until the last few seconds, but in the end the Twisters prevailed and recorded their second victory.
As against the Pirmasens Praetorians, the attacking front of the Engineers initially found it difficult to find the right rhythm.
However, the hosts’ offense immediately marched across the pitch and secured the first touchdown in the game (PAT good). With that, Holzgerlingen was 7-0 up early at the beginning.
Again the offense had to hand over the play equipment with a punt in the following drive. However, the Engineers Defense managed to stop the opposing drive. On top of that, the twister’s punt attempt in their own red zone failed with a fumble, which was picked up by defensive end Eric Nkouei.
Quarterback Jonathan Urich exploited the good field position for the touchdown run (PAT not good). New score: 7: 6.
The exchange of blows continued. While the Holzgerlinger moved the ball across the field in a controlled manner and scored the touchdown (PAT good) to 14: 6, the Engineers offense seemed to have finally woken up. 4 plays were enough until running back Julius Hoffmann could score the next touchdown for our boys. Quarterback Jonathan Urich himself equalized at 14:14 in the successful 2-point convertion.
It seemed like not only the offense had come into play better. The defense held out against the Twister attack and forced the home side to punt. The Twister Special Team reached into their bag of tricks and used the surprise effect for a fake punt. Unfortunately, this succeeded and gave the Holzgerlinger a new first down. Shortly before the end of the second quarter, Holzgerlingen reached the end zone (PAT good) for the 21:14 halftime score.
Both series of attacks were initially unsuccessful. At the Punt the Engineers underwent this Returner the Twister a faux pas when receiving the Punts lost the football. Defensive Back Philip Kloy collected the egg and made it possible Engineers-Offense the Drive in to continue the opposing end zone. Quarterback Jonathan ran one more time Urich even in the end zone and the Engineers were in the lead for the first time in the game with 21:26 (2-Point-Convertion not good).
After that, the engineers experienced a short dry spell:
Holzgerlingen had an answer ready with a touchdown to the engineers’ tour. The successful 2-Point-Convertion gave the 29:26 lead for that Twister her.
The subsequent drive from Karlsruhe went with one Interception over. Holzgerlingen used the momentum and once again found the end zone. (PAT Well). New score: 36:26 for the Twister.
Now she had to Engineers-Offense in the fourth Quarter react absolutely, so that there was still the possibility to turn the game. With the good run and pass combination finally came the Offense forward again and into the opposing half. In the end zone could be Wide Receiver Simon Wasihun unlock and catch the egg at 36:32 (PAT not good).
With less than three minutes and more points, they would have Twister had the opportunity to win the game early.
However, she had Defense other plans and stopped all touchdown attempts by the hosts. Also the Field goal attempt failed.
Less than 2 minutes remained and the engineers only needed a touchdown to win.
Time outs, injury breaks and several penalties made the last few seconds feel like an eternity. Nonetheless reached the Offense at half a minute stay better Play time the opposing 5 yards. Unfortunately, the attempted pass to touchdown ended up with the opponent Interception. So, despite a tough battle between our boys, the game was in favor of the Twister decided with 36:32.
The engineers will be back at home at 3 p.m. next week, Saturday. We are allowed to host the Pforzheim Wilddogs greet.
We thank the Holzgerlingen Twister for the great game and wish you all the best for the rest of the season!
