Some words catch the eye. Sex, death and blood, of course, maybe also idiosyncrasy (because you still don’t know what it should mean), but also unfamiliar words, especially if they look wrong at first glance: Anyone who has learned to read well has a little proofreader sit in your head that gets frightened when you see a mistake.
