Jakarta, CNN Indonesia —
Senior politician of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) Hendrawan Supratikno satirizes the Sahabat Ganjar volunteer movement which made declarations of support in 34 provinces for Pranowo reward as a presidential candidate (candidate) in the presidential election or 2024 presidential election.
Hendrawan assessed that the lure of contestation could lead to rivalry. In fact, at this time the people need a conducive atmosphere in the midst of the big problem of the Covid-19 pandemic.
“What we need now is coolness to solve big problems. We shouldn’t be too flirtatious with the accessories of power,” said Hendrawan via text message to CNNIndonesia.com, Monday (23/8).
The deputy chairman of the DPRRI’s State Financial Accountability Agency (BAKN) said the PDIP had not yet thought of preparing for the 2024 presidential election. According to him, the party bearing the bull logo was busy helping the government deal with the Covid-19 pandemic and the impact of the economic crisis.
He assessed that efforts to handle the pandemic and its various impacts have shown positive signals. Hendrawan emphasized that his party will continue to focus on supporting the government in dealing with the pandemic rather than dealing with the presidential election.
“Don’t let the temptation of the 2024 contest shift our attention to synergistic efforts to build gotong royong out of the ‘perfect storm that hit the nation,” he said.
Previously, a volunteer element named Sahabat Ganjar declared support for Ganjar Pranowo for the 2024 presidential election. The declaration was carried out virtually by involving volunteers from 34 provinces.
The general chairman of Sahabat Ganjar, Leni Handayani, said that her party would start promoting Ganjar to the public. He said that Friends of Ganjar would socialize Ganjar’s activities and achievements while serving as a public official.
“We, Friends of Ganjar, state that we support and escort Ganjar Pranowo to run in the 2024-2029 Indonesian presidential election,” said Chair Leni Handayani in a written statement, Sunday (22/8).
Ganjar has always been included in the list of candidates for the 2024 presidential election in various surveys. However, Ganjar has not always been the strongest figure in the presidential candidate electability survey.
Several names are also competing with Ganjar, such as DKI Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan, West Java Governor Ridwan Kamil, Gerindra Party Chair Prabowo Subianto, Democratic Party Chair Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY), and Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno.
