How Xiaomi solves the proximity sensor problem on the phone

The company has finally listened to user complaints about the proximity sensor’s performance and is convinced that the problem lies with the sensor itself.

One of the annoying problems of some phones Xiaomi is operation distance sensor (proximity) wrong. The main task of this sensor is to turn off the touch screen during a voice call, after the user holds the phone to his ear. This avoids accidental touches and accesses certain functions during calls.

The company finally listened to user complaints about the proximity sensor’s performance and believed that the problem was with the sensor itself. Therefore, Xiaomi decided to stop purchasing sensors from Elliptic Labs, which supplies sensors for the company’s latest models.

Minghao Sensing has been selected as the supplier that will carry out the production and supply of sensors to Xiaomi. It is unknown how soon Xiaomi will start putting the proximity sensor from Minghao Sensing into its phones.

Reported from Gizchina (23/8), in addition to changing the sensor supplier itself, Xiaomi also intends to improve software so the problem on the distance sensor will disappear on cell phone who are having problems.
