Linzer Domgasse will remain car-free on August 28th

LINZ. On Saturday, August 28th, the busy Linzer Domgasse will become a pedestrian zone for a few hours as part of the “Domgasse Festival” with music and a supporting program.

“It is high time that Domgasse became a pedestrian zone. That brings a breath of fresh air and new life to the city, “says Clemens Brandstetter from the change.

“While cities like Dublin or Paris have long since discovered that public space should be available to people, in Linz even the most beautiful alleys next to the main square are still parking spaces,” says the top candidate for change, Clemens Brandstetter.

Live concert by “Chevapcici”

The change is now tackling itself and making Domgasse car-free for one Saturday and inviting everyone to a party from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. with music, dancing and a cozy get-together. In addition to free music cabaret by the Linz artist ‘Chevapcici’, a cello concert and a DJ set, there are of course the best local beers in Chelsea or a glass of wine in Divino.

Restaurateurs are calling for a pedestrian zone

For a long time, restaurateurs have been calling for a pedestrian zone in Domgasse, but the city government would ignore this concern. “More guest gardens, more joie de vivre. Isn’t it the car-free squares and gasserl that we like so much on vacation in Italy? Linz can do that too, “says Clemens Brandstetter.

In addition to the increase in quality of life through a pedestrian zone in Domgasse, a redesign is also an opportunity to relieve the congested Schmidtorstrasse between Taubenmarkt and Hauptplatz. According to the mobility expert Tobias Watzl, the fact that Domgasse still belongs to the cars and not to the people shows how backward the politics of the city government is.
