The exact consequences for car buyers depend on what they have bought or still want to buy. “We see that there are delays, how much depends on the make and model,” says the spokesperson for the RAI Association.
René Pouw, general manager of car dealer Janssen Van Kouwen also sees this. He sells Opels, Fiats and Jeeps, among others. “We currently have about 300 new cars in stock, which is enough to serve the people.” Normally Janssen Van Kouwen has 450 new cars. “It’s gradually getting thinner.”
In order to be able to help customers who want a car with a long delivery time, Pouw has purchased additional so-called young used cars. “This way we can offer an alternative if the delivery time takes too long.” For example, the problems in the car factories also have an impact on the used car market. It will break this year records.
BMW and Volkswagen
BMW says that at the moment only certain options are available with a delay. “It just depends on what you equip your car with,” says a spokesperson. In the case of the VDL Nedcar factory in Born, which works on behalf of BMW, it is now also affecting more critical parts. “At some point you reach a point that you can’t reduce,” says the BMW spokesman. That is why the factory will remain closed for another week.
According to Volkswagen importer Pon, there is sufficient production and stock of most important models. “A number of other models will be built, but may have a longer delivery time than usual.” The spokesperson does not say which models those are.
