Quake came on the market in 1996, just at the time of the advent of 3D accelerators and the expansion of 3Dfx, which, however, went bankrupt a few years later. At that time, we could look at GLQuake, a port using the OpenGL library with amazing graphics, like a holy image, but today many people spit it out.
–
It has now been introduced at the virtual QuakeCon remaster of this game, which means that you can expect only minor changes and certainly not a completely redesigned graphic page. Of course, 3D acceleration is there and support for high resolutions up to 4K, but otherwise the game looks very similar to the old days, including textures and models. –
However, the graphic page was touched and the models were even improved, although it is not very visible. In addition, we also have dynamic shadows, antialiasing, motion blur and a certain interpolation of models, which probably means their animation.
Crossplay on many different platforms is also supported:
- PC:
- Steam
- Bethesda Launcher
- Microsoft Windows Store
- Consoles:
- Xbox One
- Xbox Series X / S (so far only in compatibility mode, but the native version will come soon)
- PlayStation 4
- PlayStation 5 (so far only in compatibility mode, but the native version will come soon)
- Nintendo Switch
The creators also did not forget the iconic soundtrack from Reznor from Nine Inch Nails, which is a direct part of the game, there is also the possibility of multiplayer up to 4 people on a split screen and a brand new episode “Dimension of the Machine”. The price of the game was set at $ 10.
