SOE Minister Erick Thohir revealed the origin of the factory which produces 23 tons of oxygen per day. Erick Thohir said that PT Petrokimia Gresik’s factory which had stopped operating for a long time was converted to produce oxygen.
On the other hand, the need for oxygen in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic is very high. This condition has also forced SOEs to step in to help meet the oxygen demand.
“There is an old Petrokimia Gresik factory that has stopped for 9 years, it is trying to be converted, changed. This oxygen plant is very large, 23 tons per day,” Erick said in the event of Erick Thohir’s Kick to Face the Pandemic on CNN Indonesia, Friday (20/8/2021). ).
Erick said that the factory used to produce liquid nitrogen. Then it is converted into an oxygen plant.
“Remarkably, thanks to the directors of Pupuk, they found that there was a factory that used to be for liquid nitrogen, which was no longer active, which could be converted into an oxygen plant,” he continued.
Erick Thohir also admitted that he was surprised. This is because the factory capacity of 23 tons is relatively large.
He said that within a week the factory could be fully operational. Oxygen from factories to meet needs throughout Java.
“And the capacity is very large. I was also surprised by 23 tons per day. It’s still 60% now, but within a week it can be 100% full,” he explained.
