Music – Lübeck:Pianist Kanneh-Mason receives Leonard Bernstein Award

Lübeck (dpa / lno) – The British pianist Isata Kanneh-Mason is today honored with the Leonard Bernstein Award of the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival (SHMF). The program of the concert in the Lübeck Music and Congress Hall includes Clara Schumann’s Piano Concerto No. 1. The jury explained its decision that the 24-year-old artist will be recognized for her expressive piano playing, which leaves no doubt that she will soon be one of the great pianists.
The prize, endowed with 10,000 euros, is named after the co-founder of the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, Leonard Bernstein. It has been awarded to outstanding young artists since 2002. Previous winners have included Lang Lang, Martin Grubinger, Anna Vinnitskaya, Cameron Carpenter, Krzysztof Urbański and, most recently, Stathis Karapanos.
