The Texas Supreme Court on Thursday declined to block injunctions against Gov. Greg Abbott’s decree that prohibits state entities from ordering the use of COVID-19 masks.
The justices referred Attorney General Ken Paxton’s appeal to the 3rd Texas Court of Appeals in Austin for a hearing. The highest court did not issue an opinion on its ruling.
The measure was taken on the same day that the Texas Education Agency (TEA) declined, for now, to enforce Abbott’s ban on ordering the use of masks in the state’s public school systems.
In a public health guidance letter issued Thursday, the TEA said it declined to enforce Abbott’s ban because it faces legal challenges.
