Wim Kieft thinks so Feyenoord a nice Eredivisieteam this season, but no more than that. Acquisitions Guus Til on Alireza Jahanbakhsh are doing well in the Netherlands, but have failed abroad.
“There is a great team for the Eredivisie with Luis Sinisterra – long injured under Advocaat – Jens Toornstra and that Austrian Gernot Trauner with that weird plaster on his nose,” Kieft begins in his column in The Telegraph. ‘And of course with Guus Til and Alireza Jahanbakhsh. They give Feyenoord something extra. At the same time, they are two players, who did not manage to live up to it abroad. Don’t lift at Spartak Moscow and SC Freiburg and Jahanbakhsh at Brighton & Hove Albion.’
According to Kieft, it says a lot about the qualities of the two players, who have excelled at Feyenoord in recent weeks. ‘So nice for the Eredivisie, but unsuitable for the major international club competitions. They see that there too and you notice how difficult it is for the Dutch top scorer Georgios Giakoumakis to find shelter at a good club. Or Riechedly Bazoer or Oussama Tannane, who were important pillars for the success of Vitesse, but have difficulty making a nice transfer.’
