SC Freiburg – Borussia Dortmund (Saturday, 3.30 p.m.)
SITUATION: The Freiburg team missed their goal of opening victory in the 0-0 draw in Bielefeld last Saturday. At BVB, the intoxicating 5: 2 against Frankfurt was followed by the 1: 3 in the Supercup against Bayern. The guests should go into the game accordingly spurred on.
STATISTICS: With a 2-1 home win, the Freiburg team ended their streak of 19 games without a win against Dortmund last season. The sports club has never won against BVB twice in a row.
PERSONAL: For Freiburg’s ailing star striker Petersen, the game comes too early, while newcomer Eggestein is right in the squad. At BVB, Hummels, Can, Guerreiro, Meunier and Brandt returned to team training. However, it is likely to be too early for a starting XI.
SPECIAL: With the game against Dortmund, the sports club’s farewell tour in the Dreisamstadion finally begins. They will also play against Cologne and Augsburg there. In mid-October, the people of Baden want to finally move to their new arena in the north of the city.
Eintracht Frankfurt – FC Augsburg (Saturday, 3:30 p.m.)
SITUATION: After their heavy opening defeats in the Bundesliga, both Frankfurt (2: 5 in Dortmund) and Augsburg (0: 4 against Hoffenheim) have to make up for something.
STATISTICS: The last three duels were won by Eintracht with a total of 9-0 goals.
PERSONAL: At Eintracht, Captain Rode is missing due to an intervention on his knee. At FCA there is a big question mark behind captain Gouweleeuw, Hahn is ready for action after a knee bruise.
SPECIAL: Markus Weinzierl didn’t like to play against Hessen so much recently. With Schalke and Stuttgart, he recently lost four consecutive Bundesliga matches without a goal of his own.
VfL Bochum – FSV Mainz 05 (Saturday, 3.30 p.m.)
SITUATION: For the Revierclub, the league return began very unhappy. Already in the 4th minute the Bochumer Tesche lost with red and afterwards the game in Wolfsburg (0: 1). Mainz surprised with a 1-0 win over Leipzig.
STATISTICS: Bochum have their worst Bundesliga record against Mainz. In six games there were five defeats and one draw.
PERSONAL: Against Leipzig, the Mainz team was missing eleven professionals due to the corona. Whether the domestic isolation ends for at least some of the players should be decided at short notice. In addition to the blocked Tesche, VfL is missing the battered Blum, Leitsch, Osterhage, Antwi-Adjei and Löwen. Holtmann returns to the squad.
SPECIAL: For VfL Bochum it is the first home game in the Bundesliga in over 4000 days. The last one so far was on May 8, 2010 in a 3-0 draw against Hanover. “We as a club have been working towards this game for a long time and we are absolutely delighted,” commented coach Reis.
Hertha BSC – VfL Wolfsburg (Saturday, 3.30 p.m.)
SITUATION: At Wolfsburg, after the mistake in the cup due to the opening win against Bochum, a bit of calm has returned. Hertha, on the other hand, is puzzling itself again at the start of the season. Another defeat after the Cologne bankruptcy would create new pressure.
STATISTICS: Hertha has not been able to win the last eight games against Wolfsburg. In the last success so far in April 2017, Ibisevic scored 1-0 in the Olympic Stadium – and Gomez stormed for Lower Saxony.
PERSONAL: At Hertha, captain Boyata is fit again. Dardai may therefore switch to a three-way defense chain. It will also be interesting whether Matheus Cunha is allowed to play after his tactical sloppiness. Wolfsburg is likely to rely on its victorious Bochum team.
SPECIAL: Prince Boateng is playing in his home stadium for the first time since winning the Cup with Frankfurt in 2018. The emotional leader of the Berliners is back at the end of his career.
SpVgg Greuther Fürth – Arminia Bielefeld (Saturday, 3.30 p.m.)
SITUATION: The Fürth made a false start with the 1: 5 against Stuttgart. Arminia won at least one point in the 0-0 home game against SC Freiburg.
STATISTICS: The (second division) balance speaks for Bielefeld. Arminia won ten out of 24 duels, Fürth celebrated seven wins. There has not yet been a showdown in the first division.
PERSONAL: Former HSV professional Dudziak could make his debut for Fürth right away, while newcomer Vasiliadis is struck at Bielefeld.
SPECIAL: The Fürth team are still waiting for their first Bundesliga home win. In what was previously the only first division season 2012/13, it set 13 defeats in 17 games, only four succeeded draws.
Bayer Leverkusen – Borussia Mönchengladbach (Saturday, 6.30 p.m.)
SITUATION: Both teams started the new season with a draw. Borussia travels to Leverkusen strengthened after the 1-1 draw against record champions Bayern Munich. The Werkself also scored 1-1 at Union Berlin at the start.
STATISTICS: Leverkusen won all of the last three games against Gladbach. The last draw between the clubs to date was in December 2014, after which there was always a winner in 13 Bundesliga duels.
PERSONAL: At Mönchengladbach, left-back Bensebaini is available again after recovering from a thigh injury. Leverkusen have Hincapie and Andrich new in the squad, and Wirtz is about to return after his injury.
SPECIAL: The first Bundesliga home game as Bayer head coach awaits Seoane. Before that, he worked for three years for the Swiss champions Young Boys Bern, where he replaced the current Gladbacher Hütter as head coach in 2018.
TSG 1899 Hoffenheim – 1. FC Union Berlin (Sunday, 3.30 p.m.)
SITUATION: TSG in the league, Union in the Conference League: Both teams won their last competitive game 4-0 and therefore compete with a lot of self-confidence.
STATISTICS: Union achieved a strong 3-1 win in Sinsheim last autumn. The premiere performance went totally wrong the previous season at 0: 4. However, relegation was just secured.
PERSONAL: Geiger returns to the TSG squad. Union coach Fischer may rotate slightly after the European Cup trip to Finland. Only Prömel is injured.
SPECIAL: For the third time, Hoffenheim and Union are playing against each other in the Bundesliga in Sinsheim – for the first time fans can be there.
FC Bayern Munich – 1. FC Köln (Sunday, 5.30 p.m.)
SITUATION: Bayern are going into their first home game in front of a larger audience since March 2020 with the momentum of winning the Supercup. The Cologne team want to boldly appear inspired by the 3-1 win against Hertha.
STATISTICS: The Cologne team only got one of 42 points from the last 14 league games against Bayern, in 2016 with a 1-1 draw in Munich.
PERSONAL: National goalkeeper Neuer (foot) and winger Coman (muscle) are out. Returning Ulreich will be in Bayern’s goal. Cologne have to compete without defender Hübers (knee).
SPECIAL: Lewandowski wants to fill the dozen the day after his 33rd birthday: The world footballer has always scored at least one goal in his last eleven league games for FC Bayern.
