To reduce the impact of the cost of fertilizers, the management of the Minister of Agrarian Development and Irrigation, Víctor Maita Frisancho, through Agro Rural, starts a national campaign to support Family Farming with the use of guano from the islands plus alternative fertilizers and promotion of organic agriculture.
“This initiative seeks to promote the massive use of alternative fertilizers improved with guano from the islands in 12 regions of the country: Huancavelica, Ayacucho, Junín, Puno, Cusco, Arequipa, Cajamarca, La Libertad, Ancash, Pasco, Huánuco and Lima for crops in High Andean areas, mainly for potato production ”, said the executive director of Agro Rural, Roxana Orrego Moya.
The official added that this campaign consists of promoting the use and commercialization of alternative fertilizers, which would have approximate lower prices per bag (a mixture of guano from the island with chicken manure or other alternative fertilizers).
With this, it seeks to benefit approximately a total of 1.2 million producers of family agriculture, who will have access to these types of special fertilizers of good quality and high performance.
Capacity building for promoters
Additionally, Midagri, through Agro Rural, will also begin the implementation of a training and technical assistance plan for the more efficient use of organic fertilizers, including island guano, chicken manure, phosphates, urea, dolomite, among others.
For this, the training of a total of 10,000 farmers (promoters) is expected until the end of the year through demonstration plots implemented in the 12 regions mentioned.
In addition, in joint work with regional governments, an estimated 200 thousand promoters specialized in the use of fertilizers in the next two years (2021-2022), which in turn will contribute to the implementation of best practices related to land preparation, manuring and fertilization in the different agricultural, agroforestry and silvopastoral value chains.
It is specified that these actions also contribute to the 2021 Composting and Fertilization Plan, which Agro Rural executes at the national level to promote organic family farming, because organic fertilizers help to improve the soil and increase the fertility of the land. agricultural, avoiding its degradation.
It should be noted that Agro Rural will continue with the sale and distribution of guano from the islands nationwide.
