The disintegration of Comet Atlas’s dense core is revealed in a pair of images from NASA’s Hubble Space Telescope and the European Space Agency that show 30 separate fragments. Images were taken on April 20 and April 23, 2020. The comet has been artificially colored to provide a suitable image that enhances the detail of the analysis. A study suggests that the two comets may be siblings to the original comet that broke up centuries ago.
