As of this week, New York restaurants and cultural events have to require proof of vaccination. Visitors to almost all indoor leisure activities have had to prove that they have received at least one dose of vaccine against the coronavirus since Tuesday.

The regulation applies to the interiors of restaurants, bars and cafes as well as to museums, theaters and cinemas or fitness studios and swimming pools. All employees must also have a vaccination.

Several apps or the white vaccination cards common in the USA serve as proof. Children under the age of twelve who have not yet received a vaccination may only use the leisure facilities if they are accompanied by a vaccinated person.

After an introductory phase of the new rules, operators will face penalties from September 13 if they fail to comply, the authorities announced. According to official figures, around 74% of adults in the metropolis with around 8.5 million inhabitants have received at least one vaccination dose. (TI)
