O Santos is interested in the Uruguayan defender Emiliano Velázquez, free on the market after the end of his contract with Rayo Vallecano, from Spain.
Peixe has competition in Mexico and Europe, but Velázquez likes the idea of operating in Brazil. Alvinegro’s challenge is to find a middle-of-the-road salary after the high level abroad.
Featured in the Uruguayan youth teams, Velázquez was signed from Danubio by Atlético de Madrid in 2014. The defender, however, did not play with coach Simeone and ended up on loan to Getafe, Braga and Rayo Vallecano.
With the end of his relationship with Atlético, the Uruguayan signed a permanent contract with Rayo in 2018 and is now free again. At the beginning of the year, he was contacted by Internacional and the negotiation did not progress.
Other Uruguayans in the crosshairs
Santos analyzed Martín Cáceres and Diego Polenta, also free-backs. For different reasons, however, the Fish has not advanced so far.
After leaving Fiorentina, Cáceres asks for a high salary in the market. At 34, he has been through Barcelona and Juventus and has been in Europe since 2007, when he left Defensor.
Polenta is leaving Olimpia (PAR), but coach Fernando Diniz is not thrilled. He is 29 years old and has played for LA Galaxy (USA) and Genoa (ITA) after Nacional and Danubio in Uruguay.
