Australia announced today that it has registered a record number of new cases of coronavirus in the last 24 hours – 754, DPA reported. There are 681 new infections in New South Wales alone.
New South Wales Prime Minister Gladys Beredzhiklyan also announced that another person had died with COVID-19, bringing the number of deaths in the state since the beginning of the pandemic to 117. The recently introduced lockdown in New South Wales will be extended at least until August 28, similar to the similar measure imposed in the US capital Sydney.
Beredzhiklyan stressed that 110,000 doses of vaccine were given in New South Wales yesterday – something she described as a “phenomenal result”. 53 percent of the state’s population has already received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, and 28 percent have been fully vaccinated.
