The death toll from the Haiti earthquake has exceeded 2,100

According to data released by the Civil Protection Board on Wednesday, 2,189 people have died in the earthquake. 248 people were found dead in the previous day.

The number of injured has exceeded 2,200, but 332 people are still missing.

The 7.2 magnitude earthquake on Saturday also destroyed more than 60,000 buildings and damaged 76,000 buildings. Many public buildings have been destroyed or collapsed.

The epicenter of the earthquake was located about 160 kilometers west of the national capital Port-au-Prince, while the hypocentre was 10 kilometers deep.

In January 2010, a magnitude 7.0 earthquake in Haiti killed more than 200,000 people and caused severe damage. More than one and a half million Haitians lost their homes in the earthquake, which also destroyed 60% of the health care system.
