Outbreak of swine fever found in Apriltsi – ᐉ News from Fakti.bg – Bulgaria

The Bulgarian Food Safety Agency (BFSA) found an outbreak of African swine fever (ASF) in an industrial farm in the village of Apriltsi, Pazardzhik region.

The positive result of the tests was confirmed today, August 18, 2021, by the National Reference Laboratory at the National Diagnostic Research Veterinary Medical Institute in Sofia.

Nearly 13,000 are raised in the affected pig farm animals from different age categories.

Measures have been taken to control and eradicate the disease in accordance with the rules of European and national legislation and the ASF Emergency Action Plan.


A 3-kilometer protection zone around the outbreak has been determined, which includes the villages of Apriltsi and Sbor, Pazardzhik region.

A 10-kilometer monitored zone has also been determined, which includes the settlements: the village of Tsar Asen, the village of Rosen, the village of Ovchepoltsi, the village of Gelemenovo, the village of Saraya, the village of Yunatsite, the village of Velichkovo, the village of Popintsi, with Levski, Elshitsa village, Pamidovo village, Dinkata village, Shtarkovo village, Kalugerovo village, Karabunar village, Svoboda village, Pazardzhik region.

Humane killing and disposal of all infected and contact pigs in the affected site in compliance with regulatory requirements is forthcoming.
