Plopsaland De Panne has a major shortage of seasonal employees and job students. The food and beverage outlets in particular remain understaffed and as a result some of the eating places and restaurants cannot open. “It is the first time in 21 years that it is so bad that we even have to close certain parts. We do notice an effect of the corona crisis, because during the months that we were closed, many permanent employees found work in other sectors “, says Steve Van den Kerkhof, CEO of the Plopsa Group.
“But we also see that many of our employees leave to work undeclared elsewhere and earn more net. That is why we ask the government to carry out more checks on the employees on the coast during the high season, also in smaller ones. catering businesses, because the rules of the game must be the same for everyone,” says Van den Kerkhof.
Plopsagroup has already decided to bring in employees from abroad in Plopsaland De Panne next summer. “We were already doing this in Belgium, but only to a very limited extent. We were already doing this on a larger scale in our park in Germany. But if we don’t get more people motivated to work here next year and the scarcity on the labor market If it stays this big, we will allow 50 to 60 people from abroad to stay in De Panne next year to be able to open everything 100%,” says CEO Van den Kerkhof.
The amusement park is now looking for a hundred employees, who can help out in the coming weeks. Anyone can apply via the Plopsaland site or can also register every working day between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. at the offices next to the amusement park for an introductory meeting.
