Distribution of Third COVID-19 Vaccine Will Be Available in Sedgwick County

WICHITA, Kan. (Telemundo Kansas) – Tomorrow Sedgwick County will begin distribution of the third Pfizer vaccine. Locally people suffering from severely weakened immune systems will be able to attend the county clinic and receive their third dose of protection.

“Tomorrow we will be offering the third dose of the pfizer vaccine at our location south of 223 Avenue and Main Street,” said Adrienne Byrne, Sedgwick County Health Director.

This decision follows authorization for the third vaccine from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention and the Department of Health and Environment in Kansas.

“Good is that actually for our cancer patients or for people who are receiving chemotherapy or if they have anything that affects their immune system or diabetes or lupus anything we recommend that they receive the third vaccine,” said Oncologist, Dennis Moore.

Dennis Moore is an oncologist for Ascension via christi hospital and believes this step is necessary to try to get back to normal.

“The delta variant is the most contagious respiratory virus we’ve seen,” Moore said.

The third dose serves to increase the level of antibodies within one. That is why only people with major health problems will be eligible.

“There is a specific list of people who can receive this dose that was approved by the CDC,” Byrne said.

Among them are people who have been diagnosed with cancer, have malignant tumors. People with HIV, those in need of an organ transplant, or individuals who have been diagnosed with cardiovascular problems.

“It’s a very important thing especially among the Hispanic community,” said Moore.

Currently the county is only offering the third vaccine by distributor Pfizer. However, other agencies are offering the third dose of the modern vaccine.

“If they already gave you both doses, it would be good if they got the third dose,” said Nereida Brito, nurse for the Guadalupe clinic.

the nonprofit clinic and other health centers hope to distribute the third dose to Sedgwick County residents soon.

“If I think that in a few days or maybe in a few weeks we can count on the third dose to continue helping the community,” said Brito.
