More than 40 people with intellectual disabilities make the section of the Camino de Santiago between Vigo and Redondela | Radio Vigo

The territorial delegate of the Xunta de Galicia in Vigo, Marta Fernández-Tapias, received today at the “Juan Manuel López-Chaves” pilgrim hostel, the group of more than 40 people with intellectual disabilities from the Amedis Foundation, HC San Rafael and EVD Galicia who are participating in the initiative “Green Way of Santiago”, promoted by the Galician consultancy Qualitynova and by Asdegal – Acción Solidaria de Galicia, within the framework of the “O teu Xacobeo” program.

After the reception by the delegate, the participants in this initiative began to travel the section of the Portuguese road along the coast that runs between Vigo and Redondela, accompanied by their monitors and by a group of volunteers. As they have done in the three previous stages, during the journey they have been able to enjoy the environment through which this route runs, while contributing to caring for the environment by collecting waste that, at the end of the stage, they deposited in a clean point. In total, more than 150 people with disabilities from different entities have already participated in the first stages covered and more than 50 kilos of waste.

It is expected that the next two weeks more people with intellectual disabilities in the province of Pontevedra will join the initiative and continue with the journey that will take them to Santiago de Compostela on July 29.

In total, more than 400 people from the following entities will participate in the initiative: EVD Galicia, HC San Rafael, Down Vigo, Centro Juan María, Aceesca, Fundación Amedis, San Xerome, Aspanaex and Discamino.
