From the very first moment, the Valkyrie model is presented as a car using knowledge from Formula 1. At the same time, the monopost of the royal motorsport series is supposed to be the closest version ever revealed.

Aston Martin Valkyrie is a hypersport car powered by an atmospheric twelve-cylinder fork, on which the British carmaker collaborates with Adrian Newey, the legendary designer of Formula 1. It was first introduced in 2016 in the form of a prototype AM-RB 001, but the serial version did not follow until this year. She used the body of the coupe, but that won’t be the only thing on offer.
The British company is now introducing a model called the Aston Martin Valkyrie Spider, which is nothing more than an open sibling of the previously presented coupe. Thanks to the open body, the spider promises intense driving experiences, which should be closest to the Valkyrie offer in Formula 1. At the same time, the car does not have to be limited to driving on racing circuits.

The biggest difference compared to the coupe is the possibility of driving with the open sky overhead, thanks to the possibility of removing the roof panel. It is made of carbon fiber and is removed by hand. This solution also required modifications to the door, which is “scissor”. The “seagull” wings of the coupe could not logically be used due to the lack of a roof.
However, the open body required further additional modifications, whether in terms of active aerodynamic elements, adaptive chassis or carbon structure. The changes made should ensure optimal driving performance both with and without the roof fitted.
On the contrary, the drive system did not change. It is still a hybrid with atmospheric twelve-cylinder fork with a capacity of 6.5 liters with a combined power of 850 kW (1,155 hp). Thanks to this, the Valkyrie Spider can overcome a speed of 350 km / h. However, we are talking about driving with a roof, when removing it, the maximum is around 330 km / h.
“What you see is a simple removable roof panel, but the challenge was to stay true to Valkyrie’s concept. Maintaining aerodynamics with the roof removed was extremely important, as was minimizing the inevitable weight gain while maximizing rider enjoyment, ”said Adrian Newey, now Chief Technical Engineer at Red Bull Racing, about the changes.
Aston Martin plans to produce only 85 copies of the Valkyrie Spider, which is significantly less than the announced 150 coupes. Maybe that’s why the carmaker emphasizes that almost all specimens are already sold out. In any case, the first customers will take over the car in the second half of 2022, but they can already see it live during the ongoing Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance show in Monterey, California.
