A woman was beaten with a box in a city bus in Sofia after a remark about a mask

Sofianka was beaten with a metal box in a bus from the capital’s Public Transport after a remark was made about passengers without masks.

The son of the victim told Stolitsa.bg about the incident, which took place on a bus on line 111 in the Lyulin residential area. She has 6 stitches on her head after the Roma man beat her with a box in the back of the head when getting off the bus.

On August 2, the woman traveled on bus 111 and the Lyulin area turned to the driver and asked him why more than half of the passengers were without masks, which are mandatory on public transport in Sofia due to the COVID-19 epidemic. While talking to the driver, a man intervenes and starts threatening her. His wife tells him she’s not talking to him. The bus stopped at a stop in Lyulin and the moment she was on the stairs to get off, the man with the box hit her in the back of the head. The woman falls to the ground with a bleeding head, and the beater runs away.

The case was filmed by the video surveillance cameras in bus 111, and the recordings were handed over to the Ninth Regional Police Department, on whose territory the crime was committed. The first and only one who helps the injured woman is the bus driver. He goes down and goes to the fallen woman, calls CGM and calls an ambulance.

The victim was taken to hospital, where 6 stitches were made on her head. She is currently recovering at home, but is still quite scared and shocked by what happened.

“At the moment, no one has been detained for the case. The work on identifying the perpetrator continues,” the SDVR said succinctly.
