Semiconductor crisis leads to hilarious situations: new Volkswagen without radio and navigation – News by sources

Volkswagen Fox is currently available on the Brazilian market without a navigation system and without a radio. On board the car, the manufacturer mounted a plastic cover. The price of the car has been reduced to compensate for the lack of equipment.

The semiconductor crisis in the car industry, triggered during the pandemic, worsened with the Ever Date container accident, which on March 23, 2021 blocked the Suez Canal for a week, paralyzing global trade, informs Mediafax.

The most eloquent consequence concerns the Volkswagen Fox model, sold in Brazil. In South America, the car is available without an on-board entertainment system. Drivers will not be able to follow the navigator’s instructions or even listen to the radio. Instead, a plastic cover was installed.

The Volkswagen Fox is a rather outdated model. Built on the Pq24 platform, used since the 1990s, also used for the first generation Skoda Fabia, the model is close to retirement.

In a few months, Volkswagen Brazil is expected to launch the new Voyage. Meanwhile, the German manufacturer had to offer the car without technological integration. It is a choice that tends to keep semiconductor reserves and not waste them for a model that is close to getting off the lists.

The list price has been reduced in Brazil. The Volkswagen Fox model is available starting at 61,690 reais, about 10,000 euros.

Many manufacturers have applied strategies to protect or increase production, investing in automation engineering and developing new technological processes. For carmakers, the semiconductor problem is proving to be colossal.
The crisis is complex, and analysts believe that recovery is possible only in 2023.
