PRIANGAN ZONE – Boeing’s astronaut capsule has been grounded for months and possibly even next year due to an annoying valve problem.
Boeing and NASA officials said on Friday, August 13, 2021, that the Starliner capsule would be removed from the top of its rocket and returned to the Kennedy Space Center hangar for more extensive repairs.
The Starliner was ready for a re-test flight to the International Space Station (ISS) last week, carrying mannequins but not carrying astronauts when problems arose.

A similar capsule was plagued by a software issue in 2019 that prevented it from reaching the space station.
“We are clearly disappointed,” said John Vollmer, vice president and program manager of Boeing’s commercial crew program.
“We will fly this test when we are ready to fly it and it is safe to do so,” he added.

“That’s another example of why this demo mission is so important to us to make sure we have the systems down before we deploy our crew,” said Kathy Lueders, head of NASA’s human exploration office.
