Apple has steadily improved its map app in recent months and implemented more and more information for local public transport as well as indoor maps for shopping centers and airports. Now there is the next batch of indoor maps and new information on local public transport.
New public transport information
After Apple recently implemented local public transport in its map map for Scandinavia, there is now a larger supply. The company announces on its overview page for new iOS features that parts of the north of Europe, Australia and 16 new US regions can come up with the additional information. The server-side update contains, among other things, information on train traffic, S-Bahn traffic and bus connections. In addition, the Golan Heights are now supported for car navigation.
Public transport information is also available in the following regions:
Australien, Alaska (US), Connecticut (US), Delaware (US), Dänemark, Finnland, Florida (US), Georgia (US), Indiana (US), Illinois (US), Kentucky (US), Mississippi (US), Missouri (US), New Jersey (US), North Dakota (US), Norwegen, Oklahoma (US), Rhode Island (US), South Dakota (US), Schweden und Texas (US)
It should be mentioned here that the public transport information has already been available at many of these locations for a few weeks. However, Apple tends to lag a little behind when it comes to announcing support. The public transport data is displayed when you tap the Public Transport tab in the map app. If the extended information is available for the location shown, it will now be listed.
New indoor maps
With iOS 11, Apple also introduced indoor maps in its maps app. The maps contain detailed maps of airports and shopping centers so that users can find their way around better and familiarize themselves with the local conditions before visiting.
After the start of the new building cards was a bit slow, Apple has now integrated a considerable number of airports and shopping centers in its card app. Unfortunately, most of these are US facilities, so it’s not surprising that the current update is mostly focused on the US.
In total, Apple added 44 new shopping centers. You can see the list directly on Apple’s overview page. New additions to the indoor airports are: Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL), Milano Linate Airport (LIN) and Newcastle International Airport (NCL).
