Tighten Security, Facebook Messenger Now Equipped with End-to-End Encryption : Okezone techno

FACEBOOK increase security features in Messenger. In a blog post, the messaging platform revealed that it has rolled out end-to-end encryption options for both voice and video calls.

Actually the end-to-end feature in Facebook Messenger has been around since 2016, but is limited to text messages only. Launching the official Facebook blog, Sunday (15/8/2021), Facebook said the presence of this feature could not be separated from the increasing number of video and voice calls in the past year.

The social media giant notes that there are more than 150 million video calls a day made on Messenger. With end-to-end encryption, Facebook ensures that messages and video calls are more secure.

So, no other party including Facebook can see or listen to the conversation. “This means that no one else, including Facebook, can see or listen to what fellow users are posting or saying,” Facebook wrote.

Not only end-to-end encryption in video and voice calls, Facebook Messenger also enhances the capabilities of the Disappearing Messages feature. Now, users are given the freedom to set the duration of automatically deleted messages, from 5 seconds to 24 hours.

Going forward, Facebook Messenger will also begin testing end-to-end encryption for group chats and calls. Then, a limited trial of end-to-end encryption will also be carried out on the DM feature on Instagram in several countries.
