New York: drone images show: City erects mass graves on Hart Island – abroad

No other city in the US is worse affected by the coronavirus outbreak than New York, a metropolis with millions of people. According to Johns Hopkins University, almost 5,200 people have already died there as a result of Covid 19 disease. The massive number of deaths, the strict hygiene regulations in the Corona crisis and full morgues no longer make it possible to bury everyone as usual.

Instead of the normally around 25 deaths, the city now has several hundred deaths per day in Corona times.

New York has now apparently started to lay mass graves on Hart Island for the burial of corona dead. This is borne out by drone recordings that show how city workers bury wooden coffins in pits dug by bulldozers.

Temporary solution only

The Hart Island funerals are meant to be a temporary fix only. “If we have to bury the people in the meantime until the crisis is over, and then discuss the actual funeral with each family, we hereby have the opportunity to do that,” said New York Mayor Bill De Blasio.

Hart Island, part of the New York metropolitan area, is located north of the Bronx and covers an area of 3,700 hectares – one and a half kilometers long and 400 meters wide.
