Lille OSC lost surprisingly hard in the second game of the French league. The Dutch tint OGC Nice Stade Pierre-Mauroy two sizes too big for the French national champion: 0-4.
The duel between Lille and Nice was special for several reasons. Not only does Nice have three Dutchmen under contract with Justin Kluivert, Calvin Stengs and Pablo Rosario, but Christophe Galtier was the trainer of the championship team in Lille last year. Now he is under contract with Nice. Rosario and Kluivert were in the starting line-up, as was former Ajax player Kasper Dolberg. Calvin Stengs was absent due to an injury.
The start of the match could not have been worse for Lille. After one minute Dolberg scored from a corner and Hichem Boudaoui did it again three minutes later. Lille soon had a chance to score the connecting goal, but turned out to be further crippled.
The suffering got worse for Lille before half-time. The referee gave Nice a penalty after an alleged handball by Benjamin Andre. The VAR looked into the situation and decided to award a penalty. That was used by Amine Gouiri, which virtually ruled out a comeback.
Things didn’t get any better for Lille in the second half. When Dolberg headed in the 0-4 after more than an hour, it was over for Sven Botman and co.. Gouiri even seemed to make it 0-5, but that goal was disallowed due to offside. Nevertheless, it is a huge loss for Lille, which is still waiting for the first league victory after two matches.
