Yesterday, August 12th, Harris County issued an order related to masks and other COVID-19 related directives.

The Harris County Order conflicts with Governor Abbott’s order, which states that no person may be required by any jurisdiction to wear, or to mandate the wearing, of a face covering, and that public schools may operate under guidance issued by the Texas Education Agency (TEA).

Because the orders conflict, Houston Gateway Academy Charter Schools (HGA) will continue with its current COVID protocols.  This means that face masks remain optional, but it is highly recommended and encouraged for all persons at HGA to wear them.

HGA has ensured we are in compliance with TEA and Governor Abbott’s guidance. COVID protocols at HGA include: keeping COVID-positive individuals off campuses until re-entry criteria has been met; enhanced cleaning; providing virtual learning for any student who tests COVID positive, and other additional measures to ensure a healthy and safe learning environment.

Yesterday, August 12, Harris County issued an order related to the use of masks and other directives related to COVID-19.

The Harris County Order conflicts with Governor Abbott’s order, which states that no jurisdiction may require any person to wear or require the use of a face covering (mask), and that public schools may operate under the guidance issued by the Texas Education Agency (TEA).

Because the orders conflict, Houston Gateway Academy Charter Schools (HGA) will continue with its current COVID protocols. This means that the masks are still optional, but its use is strongly recommended for everyone at HGA.

Additionally, HGA has ensured that we comply with TEA and Governor Abbott’s guidance. COVID protocols at HGA include: keeping anyone positive with COVID out of schools until reentry criteria are met; cleaning of all schools more frequently; provide virtual learning for any student who tests positive for COVID, and other additional measures to ensure a safe and healthy learning environment.
