No more management with the baton! Companies are starting to understand that the well-being of employees only brings them benefits. It remains to be seen how to make people happy …

The key ingredient to happiness at work? The social link, affirms an OpinionWay survey for Microsoft France dated February 2021: 40% of the employees questioned, even a little more among the youngest, cite the fact of appreciating their colleagues and the atmosphere of the office among the main sources of happiness at work. Months of telework or partial unemployment made us nostalgic for the little things of office life. We miss the colleagues, the meals at the cantoche and the corridor discussions! Since the start of the crisis, experts, who probe the hearts and souls of French people at work, have diagnosed growing discomfort, probably linked to the breaking of the physical link that existed in open spaces.

The barometer of the firm Empreinte Humaine, published at the end of March, announced, for example, that employees are moving more and more from psychological distress (45%) to pure and simple depression (from 21% to 36% from December to March) . Beyond isolation and uncertainties about the future, the pandemic has also given rise to a multitude of managerial bugs that do not help the situation of confined employees: remote coping, video-meeting, intensification of work, jamming benchmarks between work and private life … “The disappearance of a collective workplace allows some managers to ignore the hours of professional activity and rest”, soberly notes a trainer in psychosocial risks.
