About the rail recovery plan

The support plan for the rail sector decided by the State of 4.7 billion euros mainly for the benefit of the rail network was presented by the Government on September 3, 2020. The rail network benefits from 4.1 billion euros. This amount will be used to ensure the regeneration and modernization of the rail network in order to increase the modal share of the train.

In addition, this plan will enable SNCF Réseau to invest, alongside the Regions, in fine service lines across the territory to increase supply in less dense sectors and better link them to urban areas. It will also make it possible to optimize the rail network by responding even more to the needs of society, both in terms of environmental protection (use of alternative techniques to glyphosate) and in terms of quality of reception in stations ( especially for access for people with reduced mobility), in collaboration with our Gares & Connexions subsidiary, while meeting absolute safety requirements.

Finally, the modernization and regeneration of the rail network will aim to develop freight transport in order to serve businesses, logistics platforms and ports as closely as possible under the best conditions.
