Taliban provincial capitals fall one after another in Taliban hands The news

The capitals of Afghanistan are falling one after another in the hands of the Taliban

Kabul, Aug. 13, LETA – AFP / DPA / AP. The Taliban on Friday captured Polealam, the capital of Lougar province, just 50 kilometers from Kabul, and the rebel route is effectively open to the Afghan capital.

MEP Said Caribullah told AFP that the Taliban had full control of the city and that fighting had ended, but local officials had fled to Kabul.

Previously, the capitals of the provinces of Oruzgan and Zabola, Tarinquout and Gelat, which have a population of 116,000 and 44,000 respectively, also fell in the hands of the Taliban on Friday.

These cities have been handed over to the rebels by local officials.

Taliban militants are also reported to have occupied Chaghcharan, the capital of Goura province.

As a result, at least 20 of Afghanistan’s 34 provinces are already in the hands of insurgents.
