dust particles
The meteor shower gets its name from the fact that the meteorites come from the constellation Perseus. However, this is an optical illusion. These are tiny dust particles from Comet Swift-Tuttle. At this time of year, Earth crosses the orbit of this comet and dust particles are released into Earth’s atmosphere.
Some managed to catch a meteor star. Below is a great photo taken by Hans Bols at one of the fishing ponds in Drenthe. It’s called layered photos: multiple photos from last night are superimposed.
