Jakarta, CNN Indonesia —
Chairman of the DPP Prosperous Justice Party (DPP)VFD), Mardani Ali Sera, criticized the article writing competition called the Pancasila Ideology Development Agency (BPIP). The competition held by BPIP was themed ‘Respect the Flag according to Islamic Law’ and ‘Singing the National Anthem according to Islamic Law’.
BPIP informed about the competition through an upload on its official Twitter account, @BPIPRI, Wednesday (11/8).
According to Mardani, the theme that was chosen as the material for the competition was strange and seemed tendentious.
“The theme is strange and seems tendentious,” said Mardani to reporters, Friday (13/8).
According to him, the theme raised by BPIP in the writing competition has opened old wounds, precisely when it is said that religion is the enemy of Pancasila.
He considered that BPIP should raise a more unifying theme, not create controversy.
Departing from that, Mardani also urged BPIP to conduct a thorough evaluation.
“There are other, more visionary theme ideas in commemoration of National Santri Day, such as Santri’s View in Danger of Climate Change or Santri for a Corruption-Free Indonesia,” said Mardani.
“But changing the theme is only surface, the BPIP paradigm should unite and strengthen the role of religion in the framework of harmony. BPIP needs a total evaluation,” he added.
When confirmed, the Special Staff to the Chairman of the BPIP Steering Committee, Antonius Benny Susetyo, explained that the choice of theme was adjusted to the context of Santri Day. BPIP, he explained, saw the importance of religious values in responding to love for the homeland.
“Right now, in the context of the month of santri, the themes of the month of santri are adjusted to the themes of Santri’s Day. This will also make the same competition for religious holidays. It is universal,” said Benny to CNNIndonesia.com by telephone, Friday.
When asked about ‘Respect the Flag according to Islamic Law’, Benny said “It is in accordance with the Santri Day. The same applies to respect the flag according to Christianity, Hinduism, Buddhism, Catholicism, Confucianism.”
“(At the-highlight) remains his nationality. The meaning of religious values in strengthening nationalism,” said Benny.
