Jamie Spears agrees to end guardianship of daughter Britney Spears (39), reports TMZ, who has gained access to court documents.
At the same time, the father must have agreed to a new guardian for the superstar.
The news website refers to court documents in which Jamie Spears (69) says that he “does not believe that a public battle with his daughter about his services as her guardian will be in her best interest”.
“Although he disputes the unwarranted request to remove him as guardian, Jamie Spears intends to work with the court and the daughter’s new lawyer to prepare for an orderly transfer to a new guardian,” the court documents TMZ states.
The father has since 2008 had full control over the daughter’s finances and private life. In recent years, the engagement among Britney Spears fans has only increased and increased – best known as the #FreeBritney movement. The fans have always demanded that the father resign from the guardianship. Now it seems that the superstar is a small step closer to freedom.
– We are happy, but not necessarily surprised that he and his lawyer have finally realized that he must be removed. “We are still disappointed with his continued shameless and reprehensible attacks on Spears and others,” Britney’s lawyer Mathew Rosengart told TMZ.
It was only this year that the guardianship case was taken up in court for the first time. In June, the 39-year-old artist publicly explained his father’s guardianship for the first time.
